A Five-Minute Life by Emma Scott

Remember us…when I can’t.

Thea Hughes has five minutes to live.

A car accident stole her parents and left her with the second-worst documented case of amnesia in the world. She now has only minutes of experiences, of consciousness, of life…before her memory is wiped clean. The once effervescent artist with a promising future is reduced to scribbling with pens and paper, living an empty, quiet life, three hundred seconds at a time.

Jim Whelan is on autopilot.

A foster kid shuffled around the system since birth, he’s lived his entire life without knowing love…and it’s taken its toll—until he learned to fight back, carry his armor, and keep his head down.

Working as an orderly in the Blue Ridge Sanitarium, deep in Virginia countryside, Jim looked up…and found Thea.

When Thea has the chance to break free of her five-minute prison with a risky, experimental surgery, it could lead them both to an epic love they never thought possible… or one that could require the ultimate sacrifice.

It’s my stop on this blog tour today, when I got the chance to read an early copy of this I jumped at it, I adore Emma Scott books, she is one of my favourite ever authors.

This book was like no other I have read, but with the same brilliant style of writing Emma brings to all of her books.

I devoured this book, honestly from start to finish I was completely captivated, I was in a slight book slump before this after a DNF, so thank goodness for Emma’s words.

The story starts out with Thea, a talented young girl studying art, her family is great and her life seems to be on track. Then a car accident changes her entire life. She can remember everything from before the accident, but her current memories are gone. Her brain runs on a five minute loop, cutting out after five minutes and restarting, the previous minutes gone… She is being looked after at a facility for traumatic brain injuries, Blue Ridge.

Then we meet Jimmy, who takes a job at the faculty after his last place of work closed down, he doesn’t seem quite sure what to expect. What he clearly doesn’t expect is someone like Thea to be a patient at Blue Ridge. She seems so normal when they first meet, and then the reset happens….

Jimmy helps Thea every day at Blue Ridge, coming to care for her much more than is probably normal. Even though it is impossible it seems that Thea recognizes Jimmy at times. They have a connection every time they meet, even when for Thea it is supposed to be the first time.

Thea has spent two long years trapped inside her own brain, now she has the chance to have a procedure that could change everything for her. It is risky and unknown, but if it works, it could change her life completely.

Jimmy and Thea are both complicated characters in different ways. Jimmy has past that has hurt him, that he is working hard to move past from. He is in need of someone like Thea to help him to follow his dreams.

Thea’s life is unpredictable. She’s a bit of a free spirit, someone who loves adventures and takes risks, but needs someone to keep her calm, safe, and won’t give up on her. Jimmy is that guy. And Thea can help Jimmy live his life and take chances, pushing the past behind him. These two were such a perfect pairing, Jimmy was the ultimate book boyfriend, so kind, caring and loyal, I could read about these two forever!

Every chapter got more and more intense, halfway through I thought things had been figured out… and then there’s a bit of a plot twist, those chapters made me cry! They were so sad, so bring tissues, for real!

The ending was exactly how I wanted it to be! I loved every word of this book, nothing disappointed at all.

My heart is so full from just writing this review, if ever are in doubt about picking up this book or any book by Emma Scott, please do it. She is probably in my top three authors, I have loved every single one of her books, you won’t regret it, and if you do… come talk to me! Ha!

Thank you to Social Butterfly for my early copy and for allowing me to be on the blog tour. I can’t wait for Emma’s next book already!
