In Stormchaser and Lincoln’s ruined world, the only way to survive is to risk everything. To face a contest more dangerous than anyone can imagine. And they will do ANYTHING to win. But in a land full of monsters – both human and reptilian – they can’t afford to trust anyone. Perhaps not even each other…
This book changed my reading game! This was the first dystopian/fantasy book that I could not put down! It’s not out there fantasy, it has a real contemporary feel to it, I loved the storyline so much! This review probably won’t do it any justice, putting into words just how good it was priced difficult!
The story jumped perspectives between two characters, Storm and Lincoln, it is told in third person, which is usually something that I’m not very keen on, but after a chapter or two I didn’t even notice.
The story starts in Ambulus city where storm lives, we learn that she has no family and that she lives in a shelter for orphaned teens. Ambulus city is overcrowded, the whole continent they love on is, All the space is covered, built on with high rises, as high as they can be built. It doesn’t seem like a very nice place to live. The only place that seems like a bit of a haven for storm is the loch, somewhere that they couldn’t build on,
Storm likes to swim there, with Milo a water dinosaur that we learn saved her life and has a real compassion, learning this was valuable to stofms story.
The stimulators, who are in charge of the place make some announcements about trials, where 100 people will be victorious and leave on a ship to Piloria, the continent the dinosaurs live on, we learn that these trials and expeditions happen every year, most years however have been about getting food, this year the stipulations want the contestants to bring back dinosaur eggs, they want to learn how to kill them, so that the humans can live on Piloria, taking the extra land that they need.
Storm signs up for the trials, at first she is only interested in the food that will provided for contestants, but as she goes through the trials and passes each one she decides she wants to go, she wants to see where the dinosaurs live, she has so much love and compassion in her, however that when she gets there she internally battles with herself, is she doing the right thing?
Lincoln, we know his reason for taking part right away, he wants the rewards to benefit his family, we learn throughout the book that he’ll do whatever is necessary to win and claim the rewards. He’s not a bad guy, he needs the rewards, his desperation however may end up screwing his newly developed friendships.
There is an obvious connection between storm and Lincoln, even at the end Storm remains loyal to him, his desperation is still there, but we can tell that he knows what’s he done is wrong, but he still wouldn’t take it back.
The book is filled with so much adventure and drama, discoveries and loyalties. The storytelling was incredible, the descriptions in the book were so good, the story is able to play out in your head.
Like I said, this book is different from my preferred genres, if you’re the same I urge you to read this. It completely captured me, now I am desperate for the next one in the series! This is going to be a series that I will love, I’m so glad I picked it up.
